EQUALITY IN A TIME OF INEQUALITY

I HAVE BEEN THINKING A LOT ABOUT EQUALITY AND WHAT THAT WORD MEANS NOT ONLY TO ME BUT COUNTLESS OTHERS AROUND THE WORLD. I HAVE BEEN CONTEMPLATING ON HOW TO PUT MY ANGER, FRUSTRATION, AND SADNESS INTO WORDS THAT VOICE MY OPINION BUT ALSO HONORS BLACK PEOPLE IN AMERICA TODAY IN A WAY THAT SHOWS NOTHING BUT RESPECT AS I MOURN ALONGSIDE THEM AND WITH THEM. AFTER SEEING THE HORRIFIC VIDEO CLIP BLASTED OVER THE NEWS AND SHARED ON VARIOUS SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS, I AM DEEPLY SADDENED. WATCHING GEORGE FLYOD TAKE HIS LAST BREATHS AS A COP WAS ON TOP OF HIM, SCREAMING HORRIBLE INSULTS AND STRANGLING HIM, RESULTING IN HIS DEATH WAS EXTREMELY MOVING. I CANNOT EVEN BEGIN TO FATHOM HOW ONE HUMAN BEING IS CAPABLE OF HAVING THAT MUCH EVIL INSIDE OF HIM. IT IS SICK AND BEYOND INHUMANE. IT BREAKS MY HEART. I MOURN FOR HIS FAMILY. I RECENTLY FOUND OUT THAT GEORGE FLOYD HAD A DAUGHTER THAT NOW HAS TO GROW UP IN A WORLD IN WHICH HER FATHER IS NOT PRESENT BECAUSE OF THE RACIST, EVIL ACTIONS OF ONE MAN. THIS ACT OF RUTHLESS MURDER WILL SHAPE AND CHANGE HER LIFE FOREVER. IT MAKES ME BEYOND ANGRY AND IT WOULD BE VERY EASY FOR ME TO POINT A FINGER AND BLAME THE EVIL MAN THAT TOOK THE LIFE OF GEORGE FLYOD. THE BOTTOM LINE IS RACISM HAS BEEN AND STILL IS AN ONGOING ISSUE ALL AROUND THE WORLD BUT ESPECIALLY IN AMERICA RIGHT NOW (CLEARLY SEEN THROUGH THE DEATH OF GEORGE FLYOD AND MANY OTHERS). MILLIONS OF AFRICAN AMERICANS HAVE SUFFERED SILENTLY AND IN SOME WAYS, INVISIBLY. TWO OF MY BEST FRIENDS ARE BLACK. WATCHING THE UNEQUAL PREJUDICE THAT THEY ENCOUNTER AND ENDURE ON A DALIY BASIS HAS OPENED MY EYES TO THE MILLIONS STILL SUFFERING BECAUSE OF SOMETHING THAT THEY HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO CONTROL OVER WHATSOEVER: THE COLOR OF THEIR SKIN. THEY HAVE SUFFERED IN A WAY THAT WHITE PEOPLE DO NOT UNDERSTAND AND HAVE NOT HAD TO ENDURE DURING THEIR LIFETIME. THEY HAVE HAD TO WITHSTAND RACIST GESTURES, SLURS, ACTIONS, AND VIOLENCE BASED SOLEY ON THE FACT THAT THE COLOR OF THEIR SKIN IS DIFFERENT. NEED I REMIND YOU THAT THIS IS SOMETHING THAT THEY CANNOT HELP AND HAVE NO CONTROL OVER WHATSOEVER. IT IS EVIL. I PRAY FOR THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN PREJUDICED BECAUSE OF THEIR ETHNICITY. WE ARE ALL MADE ONE IN THE EYES OF CHRIST JESUS. WE ARE EQUAL. AS HIS FOLLOWER, I AM CALLED TO LOVE PEOPLE WITH HIS LOVE REGARDLESS OF RACE, GENDER, SEXUAL PREFERENCE, SOCIAL ECONOMIC STATUS, OR SOMEONE’S BACKGROUND. HAVING FRIENDS WHO HAVE HAD TO SUFFER SOCIAL INJUSTICE, IN SOME WAYS, SEEING IT FIRSTHAND, HAS GIVEN ME A DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT BLACK PEOPLE IN THIS COUNTRY HAVE TO DEAL WITH ON A DAY-TO-DAY BASIS. MY HEART GOES OUT TO THEM BECAUSE THEY ARE MY FRIENDS BUT ALSO BECAUSE OF WHAT THEY HAVE HAD TO ENDURE. I AM WHITE AND I HAVE WHITE PRIVILEGE. I DO NOT HAVE TO BE AND AM NOT FEARFUL FOR MY LIFE WHEN I SEE A COP OR IN THE EVENT THAT HE PULLS ME OVER. AFRICAN AMERICANS WHO FACE THIS FEAR DAILY, I MOURN FOR YOU. THIS IS A FEAR THAT NO ONE SHOULD HAVE TO FACE AND CERTAINLY NOT ALONE OR SILENCED. THIS RACISM HAS TO CHANGE. I AM A STRONG BELIEVER THAT THE THINGS THAT OUTRAGE US REVEAL THE TRUE CONTENTS OF OUR HEARTS. I WEEP FOR AFRICAN AMERICANS WHO LIVE IN A PARALYZING FEAR THAT I MYSELF DO NOT KNOW NOR UNDERSTAND. I AM CALLED TO LOVE OTHERS IN A WAY THAT REFLECTS MY LORD. I AM SENDING MY LOVE AND UPMOST RESPECT TO MY BLACK BROTHERS, SISTERS, AND FRIENDS DURING THIS TIME OF MOURNING. YOU ARE NOT ALONE. #blacklivesmatter
